Before you start

Must possess an active personal profile on the unified eCitizen network portal.
For lost licenses, you must obtain an official Police Abstract from a local police station before applying online.

Documents you need

National Identity Card or valid foreign passport details.
A scanned legible copy of your valid Police Abstract (in PDF or JPEG format).
Your current driving licence number or estimated registration reference year if known.

Step by step

Access the NTSA portal dashboard
Log into the official eCitizen platform using your personal credentials and open the National Transport and Safety Authority service link.
Select license replacement services
Open the "Driving License Services" sub-menu interface screen and click on the "Replacement of Driving License" link pathway.
Upload documents and fill details
Input your original licence tracking number, specify the reason for the replacement request, and upload your scanned physical Police Abstract file.
Clear the replacement charges
Select your preferred eCitizen transactional tool (such as mobile money or card payments) and clear the required Ksh 3,160 flat portal total.
Schedule your smart card collection slot
Choose an open calendar appointment date and your nearest NTSA collection hub center to schedule your biometric verification or physical card pick-up session.

Office visits

To verify your identity biometrically and collect your physical replacement Smart DL plastic card. — You must visit your selected regional NTSA operational center or designated Huduma Centre biometric desk (e.g., NTSA Headquarters at 316 Upper Hill Chambers in Nairobi).

Questions

Can I change my delivery station after paying the replacement fee?

No. Once your replacement order is submitted and paid for, your record is queued to a specific printing station. You cannot change your pick-up venue mid-process.

Will my replacement license keep my old expiry date?

Yes. Applying for a duplicate/replacement simply prints a copy of your existing record on file. It does not extend your active 1-year or 3-year validation period. If your license was already expired when you lost it, you must pay for a renewal after getting the replacement.

Can I continue to drive using my payment receipt while the card is being made?

Yes. You can print out the eCitizen application summary receipt and carry it alongside your Police Abstract as temporary authorization while card production is finalized.

What happens if I find my lost licence after paying for a replacement?

Once the replacement transaction is processed, your old licence profile data is digitally deactivated on the central network registry, rendering the old card or book invalid.
