About
Rebecca Wanjiku Miano was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife by President William Ruto in August 2024. She is responsible for leading Kenya’s national tourism strategy and managing wildlife conservation policies. Before this role, she served as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry from 2023 to 2024, where she led regional trade talks and economic partnerships. She was also Cabinet Secretary for East African Community, ASALs and Regional Development from 2022 to 2023 Before joining government, Miano spent nearly 30 years in the energy sector. She joined the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) in 1998 as an assistant legal officer. She rose through the ranks to become the company secretary and director of legal affairs. In 2017, she became the first female managing director and chief executive officer of the organization, where she managed major renewable energy projects. Miano began her career as a legal officer at Musyoka Annan & Company Advocates in Nairobi, and later worked at Slater and Gordon in Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Laws in Comparative Law from the Australian National University. She is also an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya.
