About
Mercy Kiiru Wanjau serves as the secretary to the cabinet of the Republic of Kenya. Appointed by President William Ruto, she took office in October 2022 to take charge of cabinet business. In this role, she manages the cabinet secretariat, coordinates high-level state agendas, tracks the executive implementation of legislative directives, and oversees administration pipelines. Before her appointment to the executive office, Wanjau developed a professional career in commercial law and information technology regulatory frameworks spanning over two decades. She served as the director-general in an acting capacity for the Communications Authority of Kenya from 2019 to 2021. She previously spent years as the legal services director at the regulatory authority, drafting compliance instruments for digital transformation models. She has also performed institutional service as an advisor for international telecommunications unions and chaired national task forces on data protection frameworks. Wanjau attended Ngandu Girls High School before pursuing higher education. She holds a bachelor of laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a master of laws degree from the University of Cape Town. She also completed further professional training at the University of Westminster and Strathmore Business School. She is an Eisenhower Fellow and has contributed to publications for the International Telecommunications Union and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
