About
Mohamed Faki Mwinyihaji serves as the senator for Mombasa County. He is serving his second consecutive term in the Senate after winning re-election in August 2022 under the Orange Democratic Movement party ticket. In this capacity, he acts as a legislative representative, participates in lawmaking, and exercises oversight over county-allocated public funds. He serves as the chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources, and contributes as a member of the Delegated Legislation Committee, the Finance and Budget Committee, and the Senate Business Committee. Before entering national elective politics, Mwinyihaji built a long career in the private legal sector. He practiced as a professional advocate of the High Court of Kenya, running an independent law office at the coast and previously working at A Ali Advocates. His transition into elective governance began in 2017 when he contested and won the Mombasa senatorial seat for the first time. Mwinyihaji was born and raised in Mombasa County. He attended Bomu Primary School and Tudor Secondary School for his early education. He holds a bachelor of laws degree from the University of Nairobi, completed in 1990, and a postgraduate diploma in law from the Kenya School of Law, completed in 1991.
