Plain English Explanation

This is a simplified summary to explain this article in clear language. It is not the legal text of the Constitution.

Article 67 of the Kenyan Constitution establishes the National Land Commission (NLC) as an independent constitutional body tasked with overseeing land management. The Commission is legally mandated to manage public land for both national and county governments, recommend national land policies, and advise the national government on streamlining title registration across Kenya. It is also empowered to research natural resource use, investigate historical land injustices to recommend fair remedies, and encourage traditional dispute resolution for land conflicts. Finally, the NLC holds the authority to assess land taxes and property premiums in legally designated areas, monitor land-use planning nationwide, and execute any additional functions assigned to it by Parliament.
