Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs (MFDA) is responsible for formulating and managing Kenya's foreign policy and protecting the interests of Kenyans globally.
What the ministry does
The ministry manages Kenya’s international relations and the welfare of its citizens abroad. Its main responsibilities include:
- Diplomatic Relations: Managing bilateral and multilateral relations with other countries and international organizations like the UN and the African Union.
- Consular Services: Providing essential services such as document authentication, assistance to Kenyans in distress abroad, and issuing diplomatic notes.
- Diaspora Engagement: Facilitating diaspora investments, protecting the rights of Kenyans working overseas, and mapping the skills of Kenyans abroad to aid national development.
- Economic Diplomacy: Promoting Kenya as a prime destination for trade, tourism, and foreign direct investment.
- Protocol Services: Managing state ceremonies, hosting foreign dignitaries, and administering diplomatic privileges and immunities.

The ministry exists to project Kenya’s sovereignty and ensure the country remains a key player in global affairs. It focuses on:
